Karate Kid has issues...

Karate Kid's issues...,Bitter Balcony, review, movie revieww, movie, bitterKarate Kid's issues...

The "Karate Kid" remake has gone untouched by Bitter Balcony. Why? Well, I, JAS, saw this movie and had problems with it because of the film and because of other things outside of it. Since I found it hard to let go of how tacky it was that Jada Pinkett and Will Smith produced this and decided to cast their own son. This constantly irked me. I also felt that while Jaden Smith didn't do a bad job he just spent the movie amping up his pseudo-charisma and never felt like he was a kid in a crappy situation trying to prove himself, but more like some wise-cracking fool who was too busy playing the fool to realize or care about what was going on around him. Jackie Chan didn't crack a smile, which somehow makes people think he was great. This is all beside the fact that I found the movie to be a bore to watch.

Apparently, there are deeper issues than my admittedly petty problems with the film. China has made edits to the film for its Chinese audience. This happens often, but it's more what they edited than the fact that they did. China seems to have problems with an innocent kiss and bullying. China… has a problem… with bullying… because communism is so innocent and fun loving. I hear they give white bunnies to school kids and encourage the singing of Christmas carols year-round. Oh, and that censorship thing is SOOOO not bullying.

Anyway, Libertas Film Magazine has a good post about this that illustrates the issues pretty well. Read it HERE.

Good catch on the Kung Fu! As it turns out he is being trained in Kung Fu. We should call this "The shitty remake" for a more accurate title.

I will never watch that trash. They used the name of an awesome movie to sell their crap one. I haven't seen the film, but I know enough to point out some major flaws.

1. Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) was Japanese, Jackie Chan is Chinese.
2. In the original Karate Kid, they did... "KARATE!" In this trash heap, it's Kung Fu. WHAT? Wouldn't that make it the Kung Fu Kid?
3. As mentioned in the review, Will Smith cast his own son. Any guy that grew up in the US playing baseball dealt with the coach always putting his son in as the starting pitcher.

I feel bad for all of the mindless sheep that have gone to, or will go, see this movie. What a waste of time and money.
