Splice (2009) (to be released 2010)
“Splice” popped up on the Bitter Balcony grid a few months ago and its first teaser caught our interest. Apparently, after screening at the Sundance Film Festival, a bidding war began between Apparition, The Weinstein Company, Newmarket Films, First Look Studios and Samuel Goldwyn Films. Ultimately, "Splice" was purchased by Dark Castle Entertainment. Warner Bros. will distribute the film’s wide release on June 4. With quite the mishmash of entertainment heavyweights clamoring over this genetic mutation, we hope the movie is actually good.

Super 8
J.J Abrams is a master of tease. Abrams, like his produced “Cloverfield”, brings an enticing trailer for his upcoming “Super 8” that fills us out with curiosity. This movie has none other than Steven Spielberg as a producer, so we can expect good things from this one. This is the best “Super 8” trailer we could find thus far, straight outta Chinatown. The story seems to take place on a remote island… (Nah!).
P.S: Here's more from "Super 8"

Lookout: Iron Man 2
Well, there isn’t much to say about this one, but for our Bitter Balcony comic week bonanza, we can’t think of a bigger film for 2010. By now, all you guys have seen and more than likely anticipate the return of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in “Iron Man 2”. By the looks of the trailer, this movie has all we can ask for: the bad-ass faux Russian accent heel Whiplash (Mickey Rourke), a faux Russian accent major babe Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and some pretty cool new armor suits for Iron Man and War Machine (Don Cheadle). |

Lookout presents The Runaways
“Twilight” sirens Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning find better stuff to do than become enamored by personality deficient vampires in “The Runaways”, a rock bio based on the group by the title name that featured legendary rockers Cherie Currie(Fanning), Joan Jett(Stewart) and Lita Ford(Scout Taylor-Compton from the “Halloween” remakes). Directed by longtime video maker Floria Sigismondi, “The Runaways” made a big splash at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Why wouldn’t it, the stars of the era’s biggest romance fall the all too old mantra of sex, drugs and Rock and Roll(it’s a rather easy sell, if you ask us). |

Solomon Kane
Bitter Balcony spotted this trailer for “Solomon Kane”, a medieval fantasy adventure based on the works by the late Conan creator Robert E. Howard. Solomon Kane (James Purefoy) is a warrior who is bound to lose his soul to the man downstairs. To avoid the Mephisto Waltz, Kane vows a life of peace, wondering the battle infested world like a monk. In his travels, Kane bonds with a family (Pete Postlethwaite of “The Usual Suspects” is the patriarch) who captures the heart of the former mercenary. |

Green Zone Lookout
Matt Damon is kicking ass overseas again with "Green Zone". Reuniting with his "Bourne" director Paul Greengrass, Mr. Damon, as Roy Miller, is back to save the day, this time in the hunt for a dangerous man in the Middle East. From the looks of the trailer, it seems just like Damon's amnesiac hero alter-ego, Miller has plenty of ways to break bones on anybody who speaks English funny. |

The Expendables Lookout
One of this year's most expected action films takes us back to 1986. Set for a late summer release, Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables" brings Reagan-era unapologetic bravura and violence to our tippy toed 21th century sensitivities. Stallone, all 'roided up, leads a mercenary group consisting of other action superstars Jason Straham, Jet Li, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, MMA great Randy Couture,Terry Crews, and fellow juicer Mickey Rourke. |
